working 👔 on not working
plus, a question or two for you + class schedule update!
Welcome to a (tough) love note, a weekly rundown by Amanda Katz (me) to help you move, feel, grow & rewire your mind for a stronger you. Okay you’ll also laugh. Basically, I like to make people believe in themselves. If you like this newsletter, share it with a friend...specifically one you like. While you’re at it, tag or DM me @amanda_katzz on the ‘gram and tell me what you loved reading this week!
How was your week? I spent mine on a *half* vacation. By *half* I mean, I physically left New York City for quaint Charlestown, Rhode Island. The other half was working and brainstorming ways I can better support your body and mind. My creative juices like to flow when the fountain should be turned off. I is who I is.
I’m creating a one-stop shop for weekly replays and bonus content for your viewing pleasure. In short: a monthly subscription service for all things movement with me. I want you in my community. Will you be there? Send me a note or DM. Are you interested in other ways to move (not included in the classes below) on this video platform? Let me know. I’m here for you because you’re here for me.
And now, let’s do this.

making sense with senses
📖read: After spending about 30 years suffering from binge eating disorder as well as anorexia, Susan Burton tells her story in Empty: A Memoir. I discovered this incredible and yet, all too familiar, story on an NPR Fresh Air episode. Burton is also an editor This American Life podcast.
🎤listen: not-so-fun fact: saving money and investing is…my hobby. I live for it (well, we all maybe…live for it). I love the way MissBeHelpful otherwise known as Yanely Espinal speaks to both her Latinx and millennial audience about the importance of financial literacy. I prefer listening/watching to her via YouTube but you do you.
🎼play: I admittedly disliked Taylor Swift in the beginning of her career. And in the same breath, I admittedly fell in love with the human she’s become. Listen to her newest album folklore.
📺watch: I May Destroy You has officially destroyed me in the best way possible. Covering heavy topics in a unique, untold way. To get a full sense of Michaela Coel, her cast, and more, I think it’s worth reading this before watching.
Also, this is how loofahs are made. You are WELCOME.

a (tough) love note, coach
when we fill our minds with good thoughts, there’s less room for discouragement. i’ve known this for quite some time but in recent months, i’ve had to actively work on this. choosing what thoughts to entertain; recognizing what feelings come over me when i choose *more* wisely. not saying i want to live in la la land where i have no awareness of this world or how much it is impacting me. but i will no longer let darkness consume me when i can choose light. and i have ways to choose light…
when i can choose reaching out to a friend who needs me more,
when i can choose to focus my attention on my physical senses,
when i can choose to go outside, take an aimless walk,
and when i can choose serenity,
i am no longer my own biggest threat, i simply don’t have room for it.
make room for you…okay?
here for you.
